Bio:

From a line of ashenkazi Jewish Becks (Ben Kedoshim) settled in Georgia in the mid 1800s, growing up on the farm Vera’s teenage heroes were in chronological order, her scholar and athlete mother, Ursula LeGuin, P. K. Dick, H.D. Thoreau, W. Whitman, J. Campbell, T. Merton, Moses De Leon, Maimonedes, and B. Spinoza. Might have been called a “sensitive child” had she not had a cool aloofness all along. She supported herself after highschool working in an off-university bookstore, and gardening, and attended the Atlanta Reformed Theological Seminary for two years, dropping out for money reasons. Whether her obsession with the collection of the “pieces of god” and spiritual apotheosis & had anything to do with her embrace is hard to say.
